What’s in a number?

4 02 2011

I am thinking of the number 99 specifically.

It is a number that pops up all the time, I seem to see it everywhere.

  • There is a restaurant chain “99”

  • There is the song “99 bottles of beer on the wall”
  • And while we are on the topic of alcohol, a brand of schnapps 99 Bananas, Apples, Blackberries and so on.
  • Apparently, there is a chain of Chinese supermarkets “99 ranch market”
  • The new Interstate 99 is connecting through Pennsylvania and Maryland, a road I have taken many times to get to DC.

  • And US route 99 connects Canada to Mexico
  • Channel 99 is the Home Shopping Network
  • We all know what isn’t one of Jay-Z’s 99 problems.
  • There is a gun, the Type 99 portrayed often in the the call of duty series
  • 50 million light years away is the Messier 99 galaxy

  • Everything ends in the price 99 because of psychological pricing
  • And 99 is the only jersey number too be retired in NHL (because it was Wayne Gretzky’s)
  • The 99th Element is Einsteinium

In the end, the best part of 99….

That is how many days it is until I will be officially given the title of Doctor.

As a side note, I considered naming this post “I’ve got 99 problems, but Graduation day ain’t one” I stopped myself because I realized it was too cheesy.
