Day 2: Saint Louis, MO

30 12 2010

Yesterday, was less exciting.

Just driving.

We from Charleston, WV through Lexington and Louisville, KY. Then through the southern tip of Indiana and Illinois. We got to the greater St. Louis area found a nice place to spend the night.

Food wise – I ate like crap, but whatever.  DQ for lunch White Castle (eww) for dinner.

In KY we stopped at some caverns, unfortunately we couldn’t go in because the next scheduled tour was 3 hours away. We also went to the Gateway arch last night – pictures to come. Then, we went and saw Black Swan. That movie was fantastic. I highly recommend it.

Today, we will go back to the arch and actually walk around.

Sorry for the short post trying to make good time.

See you all later.

Day 1: To Charleston, WV

29 12 2010

Yesterday was as un eventful as drives get, and I can’t ask fro much more then that.

I picked up Katelyn yesterday at 9:15, so I was late as usual. Pack up the care, which ended up having a bit more than I expected. Of course, I also bought candy, chips, pretzels, water, juice, Granola and Chewy bars, and a summer sausage (mmmm summer sausage).

In any case, we got on the road around 10.

We made are way through buffalo, then to Erie, PA. Stopped in Ohio for some food. I ate McDonalds and was tempted to buy the new 50 piece mcnuggets. (yep 50 piece). Katelyn has subway for the sake of being healthy. We each bought a dollar scratch of, and I won a dollar. I played again and nothing, oh well. It was off through Cleveland, OH.

We played several road games. The one where you have to find a word outside the car that begins with the letter A, then B, and so on. It took forever. Then it was the band game. Name a band, then take the third letter and you have to name a band that begins with that letter. E.G. Moneen, Next band begins with N, Nicklecreek Next band goes with c, and so on. Then, because we are so cool, we played the same game but with drug names. Somehow, we did that for about 1.5 hours without stopping.

A couple more rest stops, passed Akron, OH – then into WV. We made it into Charleston, about 7 pm. We drove to Fairfield Inn because they had a “managers” special on google maps. It was still 90.00 dollars. So we sat in the car, used their free public wifi to go to hotels.com. Got a great place for super cheap. This place is beautiful. We got up on the 10th floor with a riverside room. Nice.

We went to dinner at some local seafood place, the food was incredible.

Came back and slept.

For today we are off to St. Louis.

Here we go again…

28 12 2010

I haven’t updated in awhile, but that is the way things go.

I went to Michigan recently to attend to some family issues. Overall, while there were some sad notes to the trip, it was good to see my family again.

Then, it was Christmas, and you know how that is. Busy.

I wanted to say I have had some days off, but I have been scrambling to get all the paper work done for residencies. The combination of events has left me very, very busy.

But here we are now. It is Tuesday, December 28th. I am sure some close friends and family know what that means but for those that do not.

I leave home today.

Obviously, not for god. It is another rotation. This time, however, it is in Glenwood Springs and it is for 12 weeks. A cozy mountain resort town just north of Aspen, CO. To get there I must drive 2,000 miles over the next several days. This is my route.

I am excited, nervous, sad, scared, and all around mixed about the lengthy journey ahead of me. I will have my lovely lady escorting me out to Denver, thank you to my peanut.

It isn’t just the drive that worries me, in fact I am most excited about that. It isn’t working in a new place either that gets me (been there, done that).

It isn’t so much that I will be gone for 12 weeks with out being with some one I know, Skype and cell phones make that easy.

It’s the fact that I am away from home for so long and what that means. This reoccurring thought, that yes indeed it is time to grow up. I feel, in a sense, that I will always be that kid at heart, that giggles like a 5 year old when he goes to Disney World. When I say grow up though, I mean it is time to face the facts that I have to be responsible for myself away from the cozy support of the home I have lived in for the past decade.

So, after my rants and ramblings I am left to say:

Keep in touch, keep reading, and I’ll keep posting. If anything I have this.

Mid Year 2010

9 12 2010

Up until this week, things have been pretty boring. That is to say – I am really enjoying my community rotation at Wegman’s, but other then that I have not been very active.

That all changed last Saturday.
